Glycolic Acid is one of the best known AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids). Derived from sugar cane, it’s a mild, water-soluble acid that breaks down the bonds between the surface skin cells. Glycolic Acid is an effective yet gentle exfoliator, which helps to regulate skin cell turnover. It also helps to keep pores clear, and targets the “building blocks” of new spots, so it’s often found in formulations (and chemical peel treatments) that address blemish-prone or acne skin. Glycolic Acid can also help to tackle hyperpigmentation and dullness.
